SJTU-TUM Timber Construction –Research and Teaching Workshop Successfully Completed

上海交通大学  -  慕尼黑工业大学“木结构建筑研究与教学”工作营项目系由德国慕尼黑工业大学（  TUM  ）  2019  年度全球激励基金资助（  TUM Global Incentive Fund 2019  ），该基金旨在加强慕尼黑工业大学与全球各高校、研究院所之间的联系，其中包含与国外高校联合开展双边研讨会、学生项目、研究生层次的联合研究与教学、慕课  MOOC  以及联合申请第三方资助的科研项目设计等内容。

本次工作营活动系由上海交通大学设计学院院长助理、木建筑设计与研究中心负责人刘杰博士联合慕尼黑工业大学木结构建筑教席  Stefan Winter  教授与  Hermann Kaufmann  教授共同申请，在两校国际交流与合作办公室的大力支持下，最终顺利获得批准。

The project of “SJTU-TUM Timber Construction–Research and Teaching Workshop”is sponsored by TUM Global Incentive Fund 2019, which aims to strengthen the relationship between TUM and universities or institutes around the world. It contains joint bilateral seminars, student projects, research and teaching at the graduate level, MOOCs and application for research and research project to third-party funding.

The workshop was jointly applied by Dr. Jie Liu, assistant dean and thedirector of the Sino-european Timber Architectural Design and Research Center of School of Design, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Prof.Stefan Winter and Prof. Hermann Kaufmann, Chair of Timber Structures and Building Construction. It was finally approved smoothly, with the strong support of the international cooperation and liaison office of SJTU and TUM.

2019  年  7  月  17  日至  19  日，上海交通大学  -  慕尼黑工业大学“木结构建筑研究与教学”工作营活动在德国成功举行。设计学院建筑学系刘杰博士领衔其木建筑设计与研究中心团队一行  7  人参与交流，德方则由慕尼黑工业大学木结构建筑教席  Hermann Kaufmann  教授、  Stefan Winter  教授、  Sandra Schuster  博士以及王浩任博士代表参加。中、德双方就有关木结构建筑的研究、教学以及实践等议题进行了深入交流与探讨，完成了双方既定的安排，增进了相互了解与友谊，并一致同意进一步开展双方的合作与交流。

From 17 to 19, July, 2019, SJTU-TUM Timber Construction –Research and Teaching Workshop was successfully held in Germany.  Dr   .  Jie Liu   ，   the associate professor from the Department of Architecture, School of Design of SJTU, has led a team of 7participants from the Timber Architectural Design and Research Center.The German side was represented by professors: Hermann Kaufmann and Stefan Winter,Chair of Timber Structures and Building Construction, TUM, and Dr. Sandra Schuster, Dr. Haoren Wang. Both sides have conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the research, teaching, and practice of timber construction, completed the agreed arrangements, enhanced mutual understanding and friendship, and agreed to develop further cooperation and exchanges.

7  月  17  日，工作营活动见面会在慕尼黑工业大学主校区主楼正式开始，会议由  Hermann  Kaufmann   教授主持并致欢迎辞，双方分别介绍了各自团队的基本情况，并就双方在木结构建筑研究与实践方面的各项成果进行了交流与探讨。期间，中方还应邀参观了正在进行中的木桥建造节现场。随后，由  Stefan Winter  教授带领工作营成员前往慕尼黑  Prince Eugen  公园，考察该地区内一处正在建设中的装配式住宅项目现场，重点走访了其中的  2  栋混凝土与正交胶合木  CLT  的混合结构住宅，期间  Stefan Winter  教授对整个工程项目的特点、建筑构造等方面进行了细致解说。之后，工作营又参观了位于英格兰花园  Englischer Garten  内的伊萨尔河  Isar River  上的圣埃默兰桥  St. Emmeram Brucke  ，实地感受了该桥自身精巧的设计以及与优美的人文、自然环境的融合。

On July 17, the meeting officially began in the main building of the main campus of TUM. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Hermann Kaufmann and delivered a welcoming speech. Both sides introduced the work of their respective teams, exchanged and discussed the achievements of both sides in the research and practice of timber construction. Then, the workshop members were invited to visit the site of the ongoing timber bridge construction festival. Subsequently, Prof. Stefan Winter led the workshop members to inspect a fabricated structure residences project under construction, which site is near the Prince Eugen Park in München. The project contains many different types of fabricated structures, such as the concrete and CLT hybrid structure. Prof. Stefan Winter explained the characteristics and the details of the project and so on. Later, the workshop visited St. Emmeram Bridge, which is on Isar River in Englischer Garten, and experienced the delicate design and integration with the beautiful natural and cultural environment of the bridge.

7月18日，工作营成员乘车在Hermann Kaufmann教授的带领下先后参观了其个人的设计工作室以及其主持设计的劳伦德Rodund抽水蓄能电站的5层办公楼Illwerke Zentrum Montafon（IZM）、St.Gerold修道院等项目，Kaufmann教授现场详细讲解了各项目的设计理念与特征。   随后，工作营又走访了Kaufmann家族设计建造的廊桥与其家族工厂，并就工厂内生产的产品与厂房的结构设计做了细致的交流与讨论。   紧接着，工作营来到克伦巴赫Krumbach镇，参观了Kaufmann教授的几处早期的设计作品以及位于该镇的由世界各国知名建筑师主持设计的公交站，并颇有兴致地讲述了其负责选址建造的由中国建筑师王澍、陆文宇创作的公交站的经过。   最后，工作营来到多恩比恩Dornbirn县城，考察了由Kaufmann教授主持设计的一座8层的木结构办公楼项目——生命周期塔Lifecycle Tower以及一座4层的模块化木结构酒店项目——Katharinenhof酒店。   这一整天，工作营成员马不停蹄地考察了8处由Kaufmann教授主持或参与设计的木结构建筑，包含办公楼、餐厅、宾馆、住宅等多种建筑类型，结合现场观察以及建筑师的讲解，亲自体会了Kaufmann教授对于现代木结构建筑深刻认识与理解及其在设计作品中的精意覃思。

On July 18, the workshop members have visited the Prof. Hermann Kaufmann’s design studio, the Illwerke Zentrum Montafon IZM andSt. Gerold Monastery, the IZM is a 5-stories wood-hybrid construction and approximately 10,000 m2administration center of Rodund pumped storage power station. As the chief architect of these project, Prof. Hermann Kaufmann has introduced the concept and details of his design and the integration with the art and technology. Later, the workshop group has arrived in the Kaufmann family’s factory passed by a covered bridge constructed by the grandfather of Prof. Kaufmann. The discussion was made by Prof.Kaufmann and the members about the modular residential unit products manufactured in processing and the large-span timber roof structure of the factory. Next, the workshop came to Krumbach town, where it had several buildings designed by Prof. Kaufmann and seven special bus stop designed by seven famous architects from different countries. Especially, Prof. Kaufmann talked about the construction process of the bus stop designed by Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu, the chief architect of the amateur architecture studio and the outstanding architect in China. At the last stop, Dornbirn, the workshop has surveyed a 8-stories office building with fabricated timber structures, the Lifecycle Tower and a 4-stories hotel with modular timber structure, Katharinenhof Hotel. During the whole day, there were more than six timber construction buildings we have visited, including office building, residential building, restaurant, and hotel. As the guide and interpret, more importantly as the architect of those buildings, Prof. Kaufmann has introduced the concept and practice in his design and expressed his thinking and exploration about the future buildings. Finally, the workshop members have finished a busy study trip, with learning his profound understanding of modern timber construction and his delicate idea in his design from Prof.Kaufmann.

7月19日，工作营成员乘车来到奥伯斯多夫Oberstdorf镇，考察Kaufmann教授的又一力作——位于该镇内伯尔Nebelhorn高峰上的云顶餐厅，该餐厅造型简洁、装饰元素自然，山巅自然景观风光无限。   之后，工作营前往慕尼黑西北的奥格斯堡Augsburg市，参观位于该市西的迪多夫Diedrof镇内的Schmuttertal学校，该校系由Kaufmann教授和Nagler教授联合设计，学校由4座体型类似的2~3层木结构建筑单体相互联系而成，外观造型简洁朴素，室内又自然温馨。   最后，工作营来到慕尼黑著名的圣玛利亚广场，参观游览了新市政厅以及周边的新老建筑，感受了慕尼黑悠久的历史底蕴。

On July 19, the workshop has visited the Genting restaurant, on top of the Mountain Nebelhorn, Oberstdorf town. This building designed by Prof. Kaufmann is simple in shape ,with the wood elements were used in inner decoration and the corrugated steel plates were used as the facades of the exterior wall. On top of the mountain, the natural landscape is infinite. Later, the Schmuttertal school in Diedrof town, western Augsburg, has been visited. The school designed by Prof. Kaufmann and Prof. Nagler contains four buildings with similar timber structure and appearance, and those four buildings connected by corridors have the same grey exterior facades and white paint interior structure. At last, the workshop has arrived in the Marienplatz and the New Town Hall, the famous scene site of München  ，  and learned its long history.

短暂的3天活动时间，工作营共同奔赴多地考察了包含住宅、办公楼、餐厅、宾馆、学校等类型在内10余处木结构建筑案例，并相互交流、交换意见，增长了认识。   Winter教授与Kaufmann教授更是亲自带队、现场讲解，通过这种实景教学的方法，深化了成员们对木结构建筑的认识。   学员们每个人都收获颇丰，不仅了解了国外高水平的木结构建筑研究的新方向，而且亲身体会了国外木结构建筑设计的新思想。   同时，我们也相信此次活动是上海交通大学与德国慕尼黑工业大学木结构建筑研究团队合作交流的序曲，更加深入务实的合作将由此展开。

During three days of the study trip, many different buildings were visited, such as the residential buildings, official buildings, restaurants, hotels, schools around München. Prof.Winter and Prof.Kaufmann as the head of these projects have led the workshop group and explained the design concept and details. Through the way of experiential teaching ,the workshop members have deepened the understanding of the timber construction and learned the new research direction and design concept of the modern timber construction.At the same time, both sides of SJTU and TUM believe this activity is the prelude to the cooperation and exchange between the research and teaching group of timber construction, and more in-depth and pragmatic cooperation will be launched in the future.

刘杰，建筑历史与理论专业博士，上海交通大学设计学院院长助理、木建筑设计与研究中心负责人，建筑学系副教授、博士生导师，美国夏威夷大学、中国香港大学联合出版的《亚洲空间营造》编委会委员，中国建筑学会建筑史学分会理事，中国圆明园学会园林古建研究会副会长，中国廊桥学会（筹）副会长兼秘书长。1995年至今，致力于中国传统和现代木结构的研究与设计。   2004年以来，先后主持国家自然科学基金2项、国际基金2项。自2001年以来先后出版了《乡土中国——泰顺》、《中国古代建筑环境生态观》、《江南木构》等10余部著作。2017年，主编的《木建筑》第一辑正式出版。
