NineEngineeringstudentsfromtheUniversityofBristolhavebeenselectedasinspiringfutureleadersbytheRoyalAcademyofEngineering(RAEng).
NicolaGraham,RosieHudson,IzzySambles,AngusFirth,AlexSheard,SamTiller,OscarBond,AriBiggartandZaraBurtonhaveeachearnedoneofonly35prestigiousRAEngLeadersScholarshipawardsgivenoutannuallytostudentsacrosstheUK.
TheRAEngLeadersScholarship
TheRAEngLeadersScholarshipschemeenablesengineeringundergraduates,whowanttobecomeleadershiprolemodels,toundertakeanacceleratedpersonaldevelopmentprogramme.Thewinnersreceivementoringand£5,000fromtheRAEngtowardstrainingandexperience,overaperiodofthreeyears,tohelpfast-tracktheirengineeringcareers.Thestudents,whoareallstudyingeitherEngineeringDesignorCivilEngineering,alreadyhavefirmideasonhowthey'dliketousetheaward,bothtoaidtheirpersonaldevelopmentandtomakeapositiveimpactonsocietyStories
Izzy,NicolaandRosieallplantoconductoverseasvoluntaryworkonengineeringprojectsthatcanhelpimprovehealthandlivingconditionsforruralcommunities.Oscar,AriandAlexarealsokeentogainoverseasworkexperience,butonprojectslinkedtorenewableenergy.Angus,ZaraandSamwanttostrengthentheirexperiencegainedfromtheirmanufacturing-relatedindustrialplacementsontechnologiessuchasRoboticsandAdditiveManufacturing.
ManyofthestudentsalsoplantoconductLanguagecoursestoexperiencenewculturesandtowidentheiropportunitiestoworkabroad.
ZaraBurtonworkingonaprototypeforacropmonitoringrobotaspartofhersecondyearEngineeringDesignproject.
RosieHudson,afourth-yearEngineeringDesignstudentsaid:"I'mextremelyexcitedtohavebeeninvitedtojointhe25thcohortofEngineeringLeaderScholars.I’mlookingforwardtousingtheawardtoundertakealanguagecourseandavoluntaryoverseasplacement,whichwillhelpmepursueinternationaldevelopmentopportunitiesinmyfuturecareer."
Inadditiontotheseawards,EngineeringDesigngraduateDmitroKhromahasalsorecentlybeenawardedaRoyalAcademyofEngineeringSMELeadersAwardforhissuccessfuldevelopmentofSwytche-bikes,acompanyheco-foundedin2017whilststillatUniversity.TheAwardwillprovideDmitrowitha£10,000traininggranttohelphimscaleupthecompany,whichisabouttolaunchanewversionofitsnovelelectricbikeconversionkit.
