Begin Again
To begin again means thatyou won't give up.
To begin again means you'retrying.
You can either start over(=start again)and live yourlife
Or spend the rest of yourlife slowly dying.
It is never the fallingthat makes us fail.
It is never the pain or thecrying.
You can never fail in life,my friend,
Unless you give up trying.
---- BobPerks
It seems lately that more and more of myfriends are facing some seemingly insurmountable challenges in their lives. Afew have lost their jobs and some have failed marriages. All too many(太多的) have health issues or are battling cancer.
I don't know if it isdesperation that causes them to turn to me for advice or whether they have cometo value our friendship. But it is difficult, to say the least(至少/起码可以说), to offer words ofhope when all they feel is hopelessness. They expect answers, some magic wavingof a wand(魔杖), or a roadmap to get them back on theirfeet again.
I have often struggled withwhat to say. Mostly because I have faced many of the same challenges in my ownlife, I remember how empty I felt after someone cheerfully offered words like,"Keep your chin up(别灰心/别丧失勇气)!" "Things will get better!" "Hang in(坚持下去)there!" "It's always darkest…,"etc.
Yes, even those who were quick to quote theBible to me found me quite unreceptive(不易接受的)at the time.
Now, as an inspiration(励志,激励,灵感)writer, being thought of(认为,想起) as a resource of hope or a good (or bad) example of what to do inlife, I have even more people contacting me.
So, what do I say?
"What can I do, Bob? I've lost my job. What do you suggest?"
"Begin again."
"He walked out on(抛弃,离开)me. My whole world just ended. What should Ido?"
"Begin again."
"Bob, I know both your son and yourwife had cancer. I found out my wife does, too. What did you tell them?"
"Begin again."
It almost sounds toosimple. I imagine in the darkest hours of one's life, those words would seemuseless or uncaring. But it is indeed the answer.
All life challenges bring about(导致)an ending - and the chance for a beginning. A jobloss presents an opportunity to start over somewhere else and maybe even inanother career.
A failed marriage does notmean you are through(with结束,完成) loving or being loved. It means there are others just like youneeding to be loved. Find them.
A life-threatening disease does not meangiving up. It means starting a new path to recovery and discovering withinyourself the ability to fight back(抵抗,反击,强忍) and win.
And if you are a person of faith, evendeath does not mean it's over. It means, "to begin again."
